Client Stories

We have dealt with cases that include the following:

Acting for Wife in ten year marriage with two young children. Husband a successful businessman who had been controlling wife financially for years forcing her to give receipts for every item of expenditure. Husband refused to give wife access to family finances and there was domestic violence in the marriage. Wife wanted to leave Husband but was worried about the financial consequence of doing so. Wife started divorce proceedings and applied for an injunction to restrain Husband and also obtained an occupation order to eject him from the matrimonial home. Husband sought to dispose of assets and hide them with a view to depriving Wife of any financial settlement.

We made applications for interim maintenance, a Freezing Order regarding finances. In relation to the children we applied for a Residence Order and a Prohibited Steps Order as Husband had threatened to remove the children from the country. All Orders were successfully obtained and the wife was able to rebuild a future for herself and the children.

Acting for Husband who was partner in substantial family owned farming business. Wife commenced divorce proceedings after 15 years marriage. Husband was concerned to protect the family business. Wife applied for spousal maintenance, pension sharing order, freezing order, property transfer order and for a share of the business. If her application had been successful the family business would have faced dissolution to pay for the requested settlement. We were able to show the wife could revive her own career and had not contributed to the business to the level she had claimed. She received a settlement sufficient to allow her TO be re-housed and her applications were dismissed. The family business remained intact.

Acting for Wife who was in her mid 50’s and had been married for over 30 years. There were two adult children. Husband was a successful company director in a new relationship. Commenced divorce proceedings for Wife. Wife had no income of her own and had sacrificed her own successful career to raise the children. She had little prospect of retraining due to illness and her age. Husband attempted to transfer assets and falsify business accounts. A freezing order was obtained to prevent him dealing with the financial assets and a forensic accountant engaged on behalf of Wife. Interim maintenance obtained until a final settlement was secured. Judge was concerned about Husband’s behaviour and made a costs order against him. A settlement for Wife was obtained including a substantial lump sum, pension sharing order settlement of property spousal maintenance. The Wife’s support to Husband’s throughout his career was taken into account which had been to the detriment of her own career.
